1. Compatibility through WineHQ

   Afaic, ManicTIme is focused in Windows machines, with a tracker available for the other platforms. So someone on these other platforms can use the service (even though a bit cumbersomely compared to windows) even without a full port that we would like.

   The hickup in this, is that if he wants to use the WIndows App (let's admit it is way more useful for individuals than the server web page) he has to launch a VM every time.

   Having said these, understanding that a full port to other platforms can be costly for the ManicTime Team, I would like to ask if it would be easier to work on a WineHQ compatibility layer. That way, we could use the Windows App (at least in linux).

   we would love to make a linux client, but it would take a lot of time. 

   We are not experts on Linux, looking at WineHQ it looks like it could work, but based on our experience with .net/WPF on Windows... lets just say we have problems with it on Windows, I can only imagine how many problems would there be with WineHQ. 

   If anybody has experience with this and could help us let us know, but for us to really support this properly is too much work.

2. Make ManicTime active immediatly after installing. Do not wait for opening main window.

   ManicTime will start tracking immediately, main window (ManicTimeClient.exe) is a different process than the part which does the tracking (ManicTime.exe)

3. Button on Away window to mark that you weren't away

   The Away screen is very useful, but sometimes shows up when I am not away.

   Example 1: I am looking at the screen and thinking about something for a few minutes.

   Example 2: I am on a VOIP phone call

   I think it would be helpful if there was a button on the Away screen that said "I wasn't away".

   If you clicked it, it would allocate the away time to last activity recorded.

4. Alphabetize Recent Tags

   I have a lot of active tags at any point in time, so I show 40 recent tags (Settings->Display). It would be helpful if those tags appeared alphabetically.

5. UnAutotagged Time Selector

   In the tag selection you can filter to select tagged/untagged time. However, I have an autotag timeline that merges certain autotags and the manual tags. I would like to fill in the gaps with "unautoagged" time by just dragging and selecting these gaps.

6. Configurable time intervals in Timeline view

   Whilst it's currently possible to zoom in/out in the Day\Timeline view, you have to do this manually and it can be very granular so you can end up recording to the second.

   I would like to see an option to be able to configure the default view e.g. 5min, 15min interval etc.

   This would ease recording and categorising tags for organisations that have rules around minimum billable time, or minimum time recorded intervals e.g. 5 or 15mins particularly when auto-tagging may nto be appropriate

7. Shortcut to Toggle Mini Window

   It would be very helpful to be able to toggle the mini window with a shortcut (and also possibly resize the mini window so it is slightly larger - it can get lost because it is so small).

8. Track several tasks simultaneously

   Sometimes, it is possible to perform a bit of multitasking. A task may require attention every 5-10 minutes, in which time another similar task may be performed. - Both tasks are billable.
   An example is server maintenance for a client (or several clients). Installing and configuring updates, software, etc. - Often such tasks are "fragmented" and may be performed in parallel.
   It would be great to be able to have an option in Settings to switch on "Track Multiple tasks simultaneously", which enables several stopwatches in parallel. - This saves me from having to manually tracking it and manually adding it to the timeframe.

9. [security] add client verification of server certificate

   Allow the client to require a specific certificate or certificate authority on the server. Manictime carries a lot of potentially sensitive information for me. In theory if someone wanted, they could create a server that would accept any credentials from a manic time client and accepts the entire upload by pretending to be the server the client normally connects to. This would allow the client to validate that the server is in fact who is expected. And as a result stop this potential information leak.

   On a more practical note where would this be useful:
   You have a laptop that connects to a manictime server at home on a specific IP. You take it somewhere and connect to a different network with a malicious actor that created a fake server and controls DNS or happens to pick the right IP that my desktop client wants to talk to. The client wont check who its connecting to and it would upload all my data to someone else.

   Next scenario is basically the same but for an android phone. The actor would now potentially have all my call history including contact names and phone numbers.

   For outbound connections firewalls generally won't help... Not without a lot of magic anyway.

   I don't understand this use case. 

   If ManicTime server is on xyz.com domain, certificate is specific to this address. Even if a malicious actor comes between it does not have correct certificate for this domain.

10. New & less intrusive Away Time popup mode

    Small suggestion for Away time.

    Issue: having that window opening each time can be frustrating if one wants to close it most of the times.

    My example: this issue for me occurs when I study with a PDF of exercises opened on the PC, so screen goes off after 5 mins but I take 10mins to do an exercise, when I come back to see the PDF then the window appears with 10min away time, each time I have to close it and that's annoying. I already set 15 minutes to "track inactivity if PC is idle for more than", but that doesn't seem to affect Away time. (translated from Italian)

    Solution: I suggest a different mode (maybe optional): when returning to the PC, instead of a big window popping up in the middle, let a small notification in bottom right corner appear (you can use Windows notifications, but I think it's better to implement an overlay system, so not a real window but just an overlayed thing) so this thing appears and if I want to tag I interact with it, otherwise I can still use the PC even with it shown as it's small, and it vanishes after like 5 seconds of using PC without interacting with it, so I don't have to close it manually like normal window (which doesn't close itself even if I click away).

    Hope you got it, this would be great as a snappy modern update for your already good app. Thanks!

    There is a setting to disable Away view popping up.

11. Easier custom statistics: documents by wildcards

    Backstory:

    I'm using the free version of MT on Windows for self-tracking for over 3 years.

    Recently I wanted to see total time working on particular drawing, and I was able to do it like this:

    Statistics - Custom - Add - Timeline: Documents (at top) - Files (at left).

    Now at right there is a huge list of filenames gathered in these years, some with paths, some not, even some with quirky path formats like "(D:) drivename / path / deeperpath / file_name.ext" (with parentheses, slashes and spaces exactly like that).

    The filelist takes around 10 seconds each time to generate or sort.

    At first, every file was checked. I selected all with Ctrl+A (works instantly), clicked one of the checkboxes (MT client UI went unresponsive for several minutes, maybe over 10 min), then everything became unchecked.

    I found some files I wanted to sum and checked them back (one by one it works instantly too).

    Finally, refreshing all statistics takes around 5 seconds, less than generating the list of files in UI.

    Suggestion:

    It would be a lot easier to enter some pre-known filename wildcards, than digging in the filelist. Simplest I can think of - one pattern per line in a text area, that could be shown instead of checklist by an option. For example, using radio-buttons at bottom of "Edit Statistics" dialog:

    Match:
    - checklist any
    - checklist all (only show/enable for the Tags timeline?)
    - wildcard any
    - wildcard all.

12. Exclude full screen applications from screenshots

    Right now we can include or exclude screenshots by window title. I don't want to capture screenshots when I am watching movies or playing games. Right now I have to put in a new exclude filter every time I install a new game.

    Would be better if there was a checkbox "Do not take screenshots of full-screen applications"

13. a flag in the timeline showing previously billed time

    I need the ability to place a flag stating when I last billed. Another way to implement this would be to either add another tag or change the current "billable" tag to "billed."

    I think this should be on some summary, like we have on the invoice in the cloud, not on each tag entry.

14. Interface Skins and Classic Style UI

    The old ManicTime looked so much better. I've been using only the classic 2.5.4.0 version as the tags, colours and theme are just so much better to read and represent. I really hate the new UI, sure it's easy enough to use the old version but after sometime lots of bugs and features will be left out to those who want to stick with the classic UI. Please offer Classic style and a Skins options for users, most great programs and techie programs have skinnable options. Nobody wants to be forced using a UI they dislike especially the new look flat UI just look and feel horrible, like a 1D plane.

15. Windows 10 Support for Multiple Desktops

    I'm starting to implement the new "Desktops" feature of Windows 10 and splitting my workspaces to segment between the different desktops.

    It appears that Maniac time can only track the desktop that it's currently tied to. This might be more of an OS thing as I realize that other applications are not aware of the same app that's open on another desktop either.

18. Tags Groups/Categories

    I would like to group some Tags together for some calculations. This could be done either by Grouping Tags to one Aggregating Tag, and thus allowing Tree-Like structure, or by placing Tags to certain Categories (Forest-Like structure).

20. In timesheet view have the notes column auto expand to fit content (if there is space)

    If I want to read my notes column in timesheet view I "always" need to expand it, please do this by default.
