Quick select toolbar
I have used ManicTime for several years, and I think it's the best time tracker on the market. There is one thing, however, that continues to frustrate me.
The way the program works is perfect. However the amount of UI interaction required to do things is too high. For example:When allocating times:
- right click on the time block
- choose 'tag activity as'
- select activity (if on list, otherwise click 'add tag' and type text)this may have to be repeated for 10 or 12 activity blocks suring the day
Likewise, the timer feature is great in…
1 voteI think this is two tasks in one. One is better tagging, which I think is quite fast in ManicTime. You can just select and press a shortcut key to tag. Or just drag time and press down arrow and tag.
The other is for stopwatch with specific tag, which sounds interesting and we could work on it if there is support for the feature.

Please add ctrl+A screenshot to select entire day in timeline
Once I finished tracking all periods in a day, I like to select all the rest and assign a generic non-billable task, so I know that the entire day is accounted for. This would make that task much faster.
3 votesNot enough votes. There is also a workaround that doesn't require much time or work, simply set selections to "Select only untagged activities" (the dropdown is next to the "Add tag" button, in older versions this isn't in a dropdown but position is the same), click on any timeline that has activities over the entire tracked period (usually the Computer usage or Applications timelines), and select all activities in the activity list on the bottom left (the checkbox in the header checks out all checkboxes in the list). At most this is a 3-step process, for some in may even be shorter depending on your usual work flow.

More Recent Tags options
Expand the Settings -> Tagging configuration to change the way Recent Tags is displayed:
- Recent Tags (Globally)
- Recent Tags (Individually)
- Recent Tags (Filtered for the Application and/or Document being tagged)
3 is huge. If the same Application and/or Document is always tagged the same - why do we still need to sift through the recent tags list each and every time.
1 voteNot enough votes. If an application and/or document is always tagged the same then the AutoTag feature is perfect for you. You can also transfer auto tags to tags so the process is fairly easy.

Track the folders wgere the project files are located
It would be nice if it was possible to track the Folder were the files are located. Most businesess use a folder structure that represents all the projects that are running. This way you only need to track the folder P:\clients\project.. and all files with this string will be tracked for one project.
Thanks,
Jaap3 votesMT tracks folders for specific applications. There is no way to get project file for any open application, so it is not something we can do for all applications which exist. We can support this for specific applications.

Multiple monitors registrations
It will be usefull, in a muli-monitor enviroment, to have a timeline for every monitor.
Sometime I see that the product register Outlook for long time, only because I was working on the other monitor.
Have a timeline for every monitor will be usefull3 votesManicTime will only track active application, not all applications running.
You can set screenshots to capture all desktops at one if that maybe helps.

When exporting a timesheet offer to open the file in the associated app
When I export a timesheet to Excel my very next action is to open it in Excel which I suspect is a common next action for many people. Currently it's a manual process; run Excel, locate where I saved the file and open it. If I'm processing many exports this can be a significant percentage of the time spent.
I'm about to write an autohotkey script to automate this for myself however it would be nice if Manictime offered the option to directly open the exported file after saving.1 votenot enough votes, I will just mention that you could copy, open excel and paste, if that helps.

Ability to assign monthly hours goal per tag
Be able to add in tags and assign a monthly goal for hours assigned to this tag. Actively track actual time assigned to tag vs. goal.

Function to distinguish 2 programs that share the same .exe name?
I don't know where to ask this so might as well do it here.
I have 2 video games that use the same engine, so when I launched them they both have the same name (ex: engine.exe) but they both have different title name of course. The application tracker treats them as the same thing and lump their hours up together. Is there a way to separate them somehow?3 votesYou could use autotags like Alexander suggested.
ManicTime used to work this way, we used whole path to distinguish apps, but then the problem was then when for example new Firefox came, and it was in a different folder it created a different entry, so you were stuck with two Firefoxes for example. Then we decided to just use the executable for apps and it came in handy on the server as well, where you can it shows a single Firefox from multiple machines.
If this gets some more support, we might add some way where you could tell ManicTime to make an exception for specific apps.

Track the conversation in Skype
Skype gets tracked correctly when it is running, however not which conversation it is showing. Ideally MT would show which skype thread is being discussed and track against that project. Currently skype title just says "Skype" which is pretty useless. Is it possible to auto detect the chat that is active?
Using:
Skype version 8.65.0.784 votesAs of May 2025 Skype will no longer be available, therefore this is removed from our plans.

"Until next boot" time tracking off option
Often times my usage times are not in one big, continuous chunk, but involve multiple boots. What this means is sometimes, I want to turn off the tracking which I have to do using the "Go Off The Record" option, in which the most appropriate option is "Until you turn on".
When I do this, I MUST turn it back on manually after boot for it to start/continue tracking, which is easy to forget the next day/morning and indeed I have done so :( A simple option that auto tracks on boot could really help.
2 votesOff the record has a couple of option:
- until tomorrow
- for 1 hour
- for 15 minutes
- until I turn it on
What you are suggesting seems the same as if you just exit ManicTime. Next time you start it, it will start tracking.

Comparing Estimated time with actual time
Estimated time for a project/task is often different from the actual time spent. It would be great if there's a feature that showed the difference

Hit "play" on a previous tagged entry to start timer again
After working on Task A, you switch to Task B and create the new tags. Then, when you want to switch back to Task A, it would be nice if you could just right click on the previous block of time (or select from the drop down in the corner) to start the timer again for Task A. Instead of having to retype in the popup (just takes more time).

Installation without admin rights
ManicTime needs admin rights for installation which is restricted in lots of companies. But there are software which can be installed without admin rights like Visual Studio Code. It is installed in C:\users\youruser\AppData\Local\Programs
It would be very nice if manic time could do the same if it's possible.

A way to enlarge the tooltip hover screenshots
They are too small to be useful, and using the F12 function works but it requires me to adjust the divider to make it large enough to view anyway. Just having a much larger hover screenshot would work perfectly!!

You need a much better way to deal with conflicts in autotags
Conflicts in autotags are taking me forever. There are so many of them. You need a feature that detects them and that has some form of wizard that will scroll through them all and just ask the user to select which is the tag they want most, either on a day basis or by project, or some other way.
1 voteWe need some more information about this one. Why are conflicts happening?

Customise export formatting
Customise how ManicTime can export time entries (or timesheets), by being able to add fields and separators.
For example, to export time into Carpe Diem Web, the format required is: Tags and narrations in double-quotation marks, and time in decimal hours shown with the word "hour" after.
In this case, the ManicTime user could go into ManicTime's Settings, and set up the formatting for exporting to the clipboard as:
Time (decimal)
Text: " hour ""
Tag1
Text: " "
Notes
Text """ManicTime users who use other similar time-entry software can customise their export options to suite their system.

Allow Edit Timer Start before you have stopped it
As a user that forgot to start the timer, I would like to correct the start time at any point rather than wait until the timer is stopped so that my information is more accurate (otherwise I need to write down the start time on a piece of paper so that I can edit it later.)
4 votesnot enough support. I will just add that you can start a timer and at the same time also tag from the start time to now with the same tag.

How color is chosen: sub-tag could mix a new colour with parent tag colour
To make it easier at a glance to see what you've been working on I would like sub-tag colours to relate to the parent tag. do do this I usually manually pick a colour in the same part of the spectrum as the parent tag, but I think it would work just as well to 50% 50% mix a new random colour with the parent colour.
This could be the method of generating the default colour when you 'skip' a parent tag colour, then you can over-ride it as per usual.
Perhaps the percentage should be 70-30 or something else,…
